-What are you doing?
-What all the drunk people do when they’re drunk- said Jake.-Being a fucking genius.
-Are you even drunk?-Sam asked.
-No,-replied Jake- but I’m not a genius either.
Sam just passed him by on his way to the kitchen, coming back from bars always opened his appetite. There, he inspected the fridge carefully searching for some leftovers that could make a good three a.m. snack. In the meantime, Jake closed the Word sheets he was working on and opened a browser to put some music. It was a good chance to relax and talk as they hadn't done in a long time. Sam got to the living room with a ham and cheese sandwich in one hand and a couple of beers in the other.
-Here- he said- you are not drunk enough to be a genius yet.
-Thanks- Jake said with a smile.
Then they both stayed in silence while listening to the first couple of minutes of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd. The apartment was a mess, as it usually was on Sundays, but they had all day to work on it.
-Do you remember that movie?- asked Jake out of the blue.
-Which movie?- replied Sam.
-I don't remember the name.
-What was it about?
-I don't remember either- said Jake doubtful.-It’s the one by Woody Allen.
-Oh,-said Sam with a blank stare- yea, that’s a good one.
They stood in silence for about a minute then burst out laughing. Sam took a couple of small paper sheets, placed some brown and greenish dry leaves on them and rolled the papers up. He passed both, one at a time, to Jake who proceeded to light them up. They each took a deep stroke as the saxophone solo was on its peak. Then they kept on being silent, just taking some puffs and listening to the music for about five or six more minutes.
-Yea, it’s a pretty good movie- Jake finally said.
